The
Fosber Rotary Shear is composed of a cutting section and a waste expulsion
section. Two cutting configurations are available: knife-to-knife and
knife-to-anvil. The knife-to-knife configuration consists of two low inertia
knife bars. The helical knife blades are mounted on these bars. The knife
bars are driven through a zero backlash meshed gear loop fitted at both
shaft ends on each head. The knife-to-anvil configuration is also composed
of a pair of shafts. The upper shaft is a knife on which the helical serrated
knife blade is mounted. The lower shaft is fitted with sectioned polyurethane
sleeves which act as the anvil. The sleeves have a male to female lock
design, allowing easy removal and replacement. The cut point on the anvil
is automatically adjusted after each cut to extend the life of the polyurethane
anvil. The knife-to-anvil configuration is also available in a V-drum
version, which allows the shear to cut across the full width of the board
or to cut small notches on the web edges for trim only. The V-Drum version
is required for gapless order changes on single level knife operations.
The waste expulsion section of the Rotary Shear consists of a pneumatically
indexed diverter plate, an expulsion nip roll and a high-grip expulsion
belt. Following the chop of the cutting section the diverter plate pivots
into the board line, re-directing the waste board down into the nip roll
and high-grip expulsion belt sections. This downward movement is also
enhanced by a roller which drops down in synchronisation applying positive
pressure to the waste board.
